Our main aim, in designing Makedonias square, was to create a multi-use plaza which would be both functional and aesthetically interesting, in order to act as a pole of attraction for the region´s residents. We designed versatile subspaces, which allow easy passage as well as comfortable stay and social interaction. The proposed planting plan incorporates preexisting vegetation to the maximum degree possible and shades large segments of the square, achieving an improvement of microclimatic conditions. Our landscape design includes an extensive system of water-features, which plays a central part in the square´s overall aesthetics. The use of water further improves the microclimatic conditions on the square, creating a sense of cooling and making the user´s experience pleasant and relaxing.
